Groq Competitors & Alternatives (2026): The Post-Nvidia-Deal Map

Nvidia bought Groq's chip business in the biggest deal in its history — so "who competes with Groq" now has a very different answer. The full map, plus a live similarity ranking.

Updated 2026-06-10 · Teahose Research

Any "Groq competitors" article written before December 2025 is now wrong. Nvidia's ~$20 billion purchase of Groq's chip assets — the largest deal in Nvidia's history — took the LPU technology, the founder, and most of the engineering team in-house. The Groq that remains, "Groq 2.0," is GroqCloud: an inference cloud serving ~2 million developers, competing in a different category than the chipmaker did.

So this map has two layers: who competes with what Groq became, and who's left fighting the war Groq used to fight. Below both, you'll find a live similarity ranking from the Teahose intel graph — the same vector engine behind our company lookalikes tool — which matters more than usual here, because this neighborhood keeps getting redrawn.

Inference Clouds (GroqCloud's actual rivals now)

  • Together AI — the open-model inference and fine-tuning platform; the most direct competitor for developer token volume. See our Together AI competitors map.
  • Fireworks AI — speed-focused inference for production apps, strong on optimized open models.
  • Baseten — inference infrastructure with a developer-experience wedge; popular for deploying custom and open models.
  • CoreWeave, Nebius, Lambda — the GPU neoclouds: heavier infrastructure plays that bundle raw compute with managed inference.

Custom Silicon for Inference (the war Nvidia just bought into)

  • Cerebras Systems — the wafer-scale speed leader, now public (Nasdaq: CBRS, May 2026 IPO) with an OpenAI compute deal underwriting its ramp. The clearest remaining independent bet on non-GPU inference.
  • SambaNova — reconfigurable dataflow architecture, enterprise and sovereign-AI focused.
  • Etched, d-Matrix, Positron — the next generation of transformer-specialized ASICs, each betting Nvidia's general-purpose dominance leaves room for radical specialization.
  • The hyperscalers' own silicon — Google TPU, Amazon Trainium/Inferentia, Microsoft Maia: the quiet giants of non-Nvidia inference at scale.

How to Watch This Market

  • Benchmark, don't believe. Tokens-per-second leadership changes with every hardware and model generation — run your workload on two or three providers before committing.
  • Watch consolidation signals. Nvidia buying Groq's assets and Cerebras going public in the same six months tells you this category is end-gaming. The daily signal feed catches the next move early; Groq's company profile tracks its signals specifically — hit Watch to follow it.
  • Price per token is the moat test. Custom silicon wins only while its speed-per-dollar advantage survives Nvidia's roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did Nvidia buy Groq?

Effectively, yes — in December 2025 Nvidia paid roughly $20 billion (its largest deal ever, structured as a non-exclusive technology license) for Groq's LPU inference technology, founder/CEO Jonathan Ross, and most of the engineering team. What remains is GroqCloud — the inference cloud business — operating as "Groq 2.0" under new leadership, raising fresh capital from existing investors in 2026.

Who are Groq's main competitors now?

Post-deal, GroqCloud competes as an inference cloud, so its rivals are Together AI, Fireworks, Baseten, and the GPU neoclouds — plus Cerebras, the remaining at-scale custom-silicon speed player (now public). Before the deal, the answer was "Nvidia"; now Nvidia owns the technology that made Groq fast.

What is the fastest LLM inference provider?

Cerebras and Groq-architecture systems have traded records on raw tokens-per-second for popular open models, with custom-silicon providers generally beating GPU clouds on single-stream speed. But "fastest" depends on the model, batch size, and whether you need speed or throughput-per-dollar — benchmark on your actual workload, and re-check often: this leaderboard changes quarterly.

How is the live list on this page generated?

We embed a description of Groq's business with the same vector pipeline that powers our company lookalikes tool, then rank companies in the Teahose intel graph by cosine similarity. Given how much this market moved in the past year, the live ranking is the only part of any Groq comparison that stays current.
