Georg Martius is a full professor at the University of Tübingen's Department of Computer Science and a Max Planck Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, where he heads the Distributed Intelligence / Autonomous Learning group. His research focuses on autonomous learning for robots, including model-based reinforcement learning, intrinsic motivation, and haptic sensing, with the goal of enabling robots to learn dexterous skills from experience. He is the author of "The Playful Machine" and received an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2023 for his project on model-based reinforcement learning for versatile robots.
