Stanley E. Woodward Jr.

Stanley E. Woodward Jr. is an American attorney serving as the United States Associate Attorney General, the third-highest-ranking official at the Department of Justice, a position he assumed in November 2025. Nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he oversees DOJ civil matters and components, including the Antitrust Division. He is best known for his prior roles as Senior Counselor to President Trump and as a private-practice litigator who represented high-profile clients including Trump allies and January 6 defendants. He has also taken direct oversight of the DOJ Antitrust Division, where he has advocated for a hands-off approach to merger reviews and a preference for settlements over litigation.
