Peter DeFazio

Peter Anthony DeFazio is an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Oregon's 4th congressional district from 1987 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party and a founder of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, he chaired the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure from 2019 to 2023. He is best known for leading the committee's 18-month investigation into the Boeing 737 MAX crashes, which resulted in a 238-page report detailing failures by Boeing and the FAA, and for shepherding comprehensive aircraft certification reform into law. He currently serves as a senior fellow at the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics at the University of Oregon and works as a lobbyist on transportation and labor issues.
