Scott Bessent

Scott Kenneth Homer Bessent is an American businessman and government official serving as the 79th United States Secretary of the Treasury, a position he assumed on January 28, 2025, under President Donald Trump. He is best known for a career spanning more than 40 years in global investment management, including serving as Chief Investment Officer of Soros Fund Management and founding Key Square Capital Management in 2015. He gained prominence for his macro-strategy bets, including profiting approximately $1 billion on Black Wednesday in 1992 by betting against the British pound and later earning over $1.2 billion betting against the Japanese yen in 2013. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1984.
