David Harel

David Harel is an Institute Professor of computer science at the Weizmann Institute of Science and currently serves as President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He is best known for inventing the Statecharts visual formalism for complex reactive systems in the 1980s, which became part of the UML standard, and for co-inventing Live Sequence Charts. His research spans software and systems engineering, modeling of biological systems, and dynamic logic.
