Roger C. Conant

Roger C. Conant is a cybernetician and systems theorist who was affiliated with the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Biological Computers Laboratory at the University of Illinois. He is best known as co-author, with W. Ross Ashby, of the 1970 good regulator theorem, which holds that any effective and efficient regulator of a system must contain a model of that system. His research spans information theory, general systems, and dependency analysis, with publications appearing in venues such as the International Journal of General Systems and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics.
