Matthew Alton Cartwright

Matt Cartwright is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district from 2019 to 2025, having previously represented the 17th district from 2013 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to Congress in 2012 after defeating incumbent Tim Holden and served six consecutive terms before losing his seat to Rob Bresnahan in the 2024 House elections. He currently works as a partner at the law firm Lowey Dannenberg, P.C., in their Healthcare Litigation practice group, a position he assumed in June 2025. During his congressional tenure, he was known for securing federal funding for northeastern Pennsylvania and for authoring over 150 bipartisan bills.
