Yao Zhang

Yao Zhang is a software engineer at Fireworks AI and a stealth startup founder in the San Francisco Bay Area. He previously served as Principal Architect at Microsoft, where he led engineering efforts to enable AMD GPUs for Microsoft AI workloads including GPT-4 on MI300 GPUs, Director of Engineering at Ant Financial, and Software Engineer at Google, where he was a founding member of TensorFlow's Grappler graph optimization framework. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Davis and completed a postdoctoral research appointment at Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago.
