Jürgen Schmidhuber is a German computer scientist and AI researcher who currently serves as co-chair of the Center of Excellence for Generative AI at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and is scientific director of the Swiss AI Lab IDSIA. He is best known for his work on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks and for laying foundational principles of generative AI, including generative adversarial networks, linear transformers, and self-supervised pre-training for deep learning. He earned his PhD in computer science from the Technical University of Munich in 1991 and has authored over 400 peer-reviewed papers.
