Bob Noyce

Robert Noyce was an American physicist and entrepreneur who co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 and Intel Corporation in 1968. He is credited with the invention of the monolithic integrated circuit, or microchip, built on silicon, which fueled the personal computer revolution and gave Silicon Valley its name. He served as Intel's first CEO until 1975 and was widely known as the Mayor of Silicon Valley. He died on June 3, 1990, while serving as president and CEO of Sematech Inc., an Austin-based research consortium.
