Howard Lutnick

Howard Lutnick is an American businessman and government official who serves as the 41st United States Secretary of Commerce, a position he has held since February 2025. He was confirmed by the Senate in a 51-45 vote after being nominated by President Donald Trump, whose 2024 presidential transition team he co-chaired. Prior to entering public service, he spent over three decades as Chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial services firm he led through its rebuilding after losing 658 employees in the September 11, 2001 attacks. He is best known for his Wall Street career, his advocacy of tariff-based trade policy, and his role in rebuilding Cantor Fitzgerald following 9/11.
