Rebecca Kelly Slaughter

Rebecca Kelly Slaughter is an American attorney who served as a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission from 2018 until her removal by President Donald Trump in March 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as chief counsel to Senator Chuck Schumer and as acting chair of the FTC from January to June 2021. She is best known as the plaintiff in Trump v. Slaughter, the 2026 Supreme Court case in which the Court upheld her removal and overturned the for-cause removal protections established by Humphrey's Executor v. United States. During her tenure at the FTC, she focused on competition enforcement, consumer privacy, and artificial intelligence regulation.
