Chuck Schumer

Chuck Schumer is a Democratic United States Senator from New York, serving since January 1999. He currently serves as Senate Minority Leader, having previously served as Senate Majority Leader from 2021 to 2025. Schumer is the longest-serving U.S. senator in New York history and is known for shepherding major legislation through the Senate including the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the American Rescue Plan. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and began his political career in the New York State Assembly in 1975 before serving nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
